The Christie Centre provides services to people with disabilities in the Sunraysia region from 5 distinct sites; Christie Central, Life Skills On Pine, ArtRageUS, Aroundagain and most recently Mildura Chocolate Co. Supporting people to access their community is important and is integral to all aspects of the services we provide.
The Christie Centre has been a major provider of services for people with a disability since 1954. It was named after the Mayor at the time, Mr W.J. Christie following a public meeting to establish support for a number of local children with disabilities. The first building was erected on the present site in 1965 with many up grades over the years.
With strong lobbying to the Government and good financial backing, the original building was razed in 2001 to make way for the building of the modern purpose built facility in 12th Street. Ideally located off the main street, Deakin Ave, and opposite the Alfred Deakin Centre which encompasses the Information Centre, library, gym and indoor and outdoor pools.
This facility is now known as Christie Central. It is the administrative centre of Christie Centre services and the base for group and individual activities for people with high support needs.
